More Info

Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women in the United States—more than rapes, muggings and traffic accidents combined and fifty percent of all homeless women and children in America are fleeing domestic abuse.

Four in five Native American women experience domestic violence, a rate ten times the national average, and an estimated 90% of all women and girls on the Wind River Indian Reservation have been sexually assaulted. Homicide on the Reservation is also ten times the national average.

Wind River Refuge aims to provide a healing answer to women and children seeking to escape dangerous circumstances & start anew. We believe Jesus is that answer, the only real hope to stop destructive cycles of violence.

Some of our staff, whose identities must remain confidential, have grown up in this community and know the horrors of abuse and violence firsthand. These women have overcome their own terrifying experiences of domestic violence and have seen their lives radically restored to freedom, wholeness & safety. They are some of our most loved and key staff and we want to take care of them well financially as they dive into the hard work of helping women and children get free from the fear and violence they once endured. Your financial support and donations will help them to do just that!
