Canine Care Collective

From Kerry Ballantine

I'm raising funds to house, spay, neuter, and get veterinarian attention for the dogs who live in, or abandoned, in my community. I live in a rural setting, near a major highway where many dogs get left.

More Info

I live in a rural area, on the outskirts of a small, agricultural town in California, about an hour north of Santa Barbara. The town is full of unsocialized, unaltered backyard dogs, and is also seated in an area where many dogs are abandoned. The town's primary residents are migrant workers and their families with low-income levels who don't consider spaying and neutering their dogs a priority. Almost every week there is another litter of puppies or stray dogs wandering around. Most dogs are "backyard" dogs who are unsocialized and have never been seen by a veterinarian. I would like to change that. I would eventually like to start an organization to help the residents with veterinary expenses and create a haven for the dogs who are left to fend on their own. The residents will agree to have their dogs spayed or neutered if they don't have to spend the time or money. The nearest spay and neuter clinic is over an hour away and I'm willing to take care of everything if I can raise the money to do so. I would also like to be able to get the dogs vaccinated if necessary, as well as treated for any other issues. My goal is to create a dog support hub, offer scholarships to cover vet bills and care and re-home the town's strays.
