Belló Family Sanctuary Needs a Boost

Belló Family Sanctuary Needs a Boost

From Elizabeth Belló

I am choosing to make my acre sanctuary a host site for refugees that are stuck here in Mexico and trying to get to safety. I need to build a fence and a small two bedroom home for them. Also finish the existing home.

My son and I know what it's like do not feel welcome in your own country. That is a large part of why we left the United States and decided to stay in Mexico, we feel safe here. We want to help people to get to a safe space when they're trying to leave what they feel is an unsafe space. On My Sanctuary I use a lot of reclaimed items like empty wine bottles, they make amazing bricks also empty pop bottles filled with sand make amazing bricks. We cut the cost of building by a third when we use reclaimed products. I would like to make our perimeter fence out of empty pop bottles and empty wine bottles and concrete. I would also like to build the hosting house out of recycled/reclaimed materials. One of our neighbors nearby even has a house made out of Earth packed tires! These homes are safe secure and warm and I would like to provide a refugee family a stable safe place to stay for up to two years while they prepare to travel to the place that they feel is best and safest for them to go. I will need funds to buy concrete and funds to truck in extra water for building and I will need rocks and sand to build with. Those things have to be trucked in and a backhoe will need to be hired to disperse the items to the different places on the property that they would need to be. The backhoe cost about $75 for 2 hours. I would also hire someone to do the labor at $ 6.00/hour as I would not be able to do it on my own. Our place here is tranquil with a couple of sheep, a few chickens, a dog and a cat. We just feel we need to open up to a family of humans too.
