Update #1

San Antonio Spurs Chaplain Rich Garza will be joining ChaseWell and our team the weekend of June 18th in Uvalde, speaking over multiple days at locations throughout the local communities.

Garza has served as the co-chaplain with the San Antonio Spurs for 22 seasons. A former standout on the collegiate gridiron, he went on to have professional careers in the National Football League and the United States Football League.

Originally from Bethlehem, Pa., Garza was a 1976 graduate of Liberty High School, before going on to become a four-year letter winner in football with the Temple University Owls. He was elected offensive lineman of the year each of his last two seasons at Temple.

While at Temple, he was part of the only bowl victory in Temple football history (the 1979 Garden State Bowl,) a 28-17 win over the University of California.

Following his collegiate career, he spent two seasons in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles (1981) and Denver Broncos (1982), before taking his talents to the USFL. His USFL career included stints with the Philadelphia Stars (1983) and the San Antonio Gunslingers (1984-85). He started all 56 games of the USFL's existence.

In 1984, while playing with the Gunslingers, he met his wife Jan, who he has been married to for over 30 years. They have four children and currently reside in San Antonio.

Garza works for a ministry called Soldiers of Faith, which leads him to speak with various churches, teams, and schools, when he is not spending time building relationships with players or leading chapel services with the Spurs.

He is a member of the National Hispanic Sports Hall of Fame as well as the Lehigh Valley Pa. Football Hall of Fame.

Rich stated, "I'm excited to do whatever I can to help our friends hurting in the Uvalde and surrounding communities. ChaseWell and a band of brothers will be there to love, encourage, pray, and show the love of Jesus to all. I'm humbled to be invited."

More Info

Just like everyone in America, we are heartbroken for folks in Uvalde and the surrounding communities.

ChaseWell was born over 25 years ago when Dr. David H. Preston founded the first Christ-centered behavioral health in his community. ChaseWell received multiple calls and invitations for our team to mobilize to Texas. Now, working with school districts across the country, ChaseWell has 150 Christian-based behavioral health counselors.

Our goal is to be at 'ground zero' in multiple locations on the week of June 13th. Pastors, citizens, public officials have asked us to bring our technology, counselors, and 11 private counseling kiosks to Uvalde, Hondo, and other schools and churches.

Our plan is NOT a quick run down and back. We plan to stay and help the community for the long run.

But we can only get so far without your help.

The stories are horrific. Schools, churches, businesses have family members and friends devastated. As Governor Abbott stated, "EVERYONE NEEDS COUNSELING NOWl"

Let's give Uvalde and surrounding schools and towns the help they need. Integrity Telehealth has graciously earmarked over $290,000 of technology and assistance with the kiosks.

We need your help with funding counselors for as many sessions as it takes. We will also use funds to help onsite for transportation and set-up of technology.

Fully tax deductible, please search your heart and give to help a hurting community. Thank you for your love and support.

We will keep you updated throughout the process. We are beyond grateful for your generosity. Every dollar will be used wisely and every encounter will be loving and gracious, with hands to help and healing as our mission.
